The Age of Insects:
FEVA Screening @ Pioneer Theatre
Eric Marciano, owner and mastermind behind American Montage, was honored this past year with a screening of two of his films. FEVA curator Gianna Chachere set up the screening and the Pioneer Theatre in New York's East Village. She was looking for works which in some way addressed the world of psychiatrist and therapy in an underground East Village sort of way.
The event, which featured showings of Marciano's "Narrowcast" and "The Age of Insects", drew a large and eclectic mix of new enthusiasts, old friends, and a few folks who just wanted the free post-screening beer and pizza.
A few things became clear from the screening. Both films have held up to the test of time and indeed seem downright ahead of their time. There will always be an audience for the weird and edgy. The mainstream media co-ops everything so quickly that it gets harder and harder to find work that is truly weird without being completely satanic.
