Golda's Balcony: North American Tour

Golda's Balcony, the longest running one-woman show in Broadway history, was hitting the road -- starring Valerie Harper as the legendary Golda Meir. The series of TV spots for the national touring show were an absolute joy to make.

Producer David Fishelson, founder of the Manhattan Ensemble Theater, brought the project to American Montage. Because he wanted the utmost visual freedom we decided to shoot against green screen. The commercials were created in the editing room with a lot of experimentation combining imagery of Valerie Harper as Val and in full make up as Golda Meir. The commercials were directed and edited by Eric Marciano with a lot of help from Dave.

Golda's Balcony is a play by William Gibson. American Montage produced this promotion for Dave Fishelson, the producer of Golda’s Balcony. It was created to promote a regional run of the show starring Valerie Harper.

The play follows the trajectory of the life of Golda Meir from Russian immigrant to American schoolteacher to a leader of international politics as the fourth Prime Minister of Israel. Golda's Balcony opened Off-Broadway at Manhattan Ensemble Theatre ("MET") on March 26, 2003, where it sold out its entire 16-week run. Three months after closing Off-Broadway, the MET production, also starring Tovah Feldshuh and directed by Scott Schwartz, opened on October 15, 2003 at the Helen Hayes Theatre, where it ran for 14 previews and 493 performances, making it the longest-running one-woman show in Broadway history. Feldshuh was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance. In 2006 the play was adapted into a film of the same title, starring Valerie Harper.
